The Cistercian monastery in Osek is among the most important historic monuments in the Krušné hory Mountains. It was established in the 12th century by the aristocratic Hrabišic family. The monastery is a monument of European importance. The Hrabišic family brought the Cistercian monks to Osek and the newly built monastery provided them their new home. Originally the monastery was a three-aisle basilica and in the 18th century but there were many changes managed by the known architect Octavian Broggia. The greatest time period for the monastery was at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries when it was led by Abbot Benedikt Littwerig.
